physical therapy service

Hi and welcome to Motus! Mary and Rusty provide physical therapy services for Albuquerque, New Mexico and the greater Albuquerque area of Rio Rancho, Santa Fe, Belen and beyond.

NOT ALL PHYSICAL THERAPY IS THE SAME:

A physical therapy session at Motus PT will be unlike most physical therapy sessions that you may have experienced before: we will not watch you perform exercise nor will we place you on a piece of exercise equipment and walk away. We treat people using a variety of manual therapeutic techniques. This type of treatment involves the PT/PTA using their hands to mobilize, treat, and educate the body into more optimal functional skeletal alignment, more efficient biomechanics and improved mobility. Exercise and movement are both critical for improvement for the body to learn a “new normal.” Typically, after the manual aspect of treatment a few exercises will be given as “homework.” These exercises are not intended for you to work up a sweat with necessarily, but rather are to reinforce the changes that have been made during the treatment or to improve awareness of proper movement patterns and/or postural alignment. The majority of the treatment time will be used doing things that you are unable to do yourself at home.

We have experience treating a wide range of conditions from orthopedic/sport injuries, neurological, digestive and pelvic floor issues, to migraines and vertigo, postural alignment, post-surgical care, post-concussion disorders, and even long covid symptoms. If you have questions regarding your specific condition and if this physical therapy would be appropriate for you, please contact us by clicking the button below or by going to the ‘contact’ tab at the top of the page.

motus (latin)

noun

  1. a movement, mobility

  2. (by extension) an advance, progress

  3. (figuratively) a passion

The definition of Motus is a great descriptor for our clinical focus. Within physical therapy we are looking to provide improved mobility, or facets of mobility, such as strength, range of motion, and alignment which then allows for progress. Movement is medicine; motion is lotion. Progress created in areas of functional mobility, whether it be daily tasks or high-level activity. We are amazed by the human body and definitely would consider study of human anatomy and how it functions to be a passion of ours. We hope this shows in the care and treatment you receive.
